How we met
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, well not too far away (East Tennessee), two strangers met for the first time. One was a young lady who signed up for a normal college church trip not expecting more than an affordable mid-summer getaway from the Memphis heat. The other, a boy, in-between jobs and looking for a week of adventure that joined the group at the invitation of his cousin. (Thanks Aaron!) Through the course of events during this week in Gatlinburg, these two became friends. As the week went by, their friendship grew, along with the whispering rumors that there was more than friendship blossoming in the mountains that June...| This was taken in Gatlinburg (where we met) this past summer. We don't have any pics from our first trip :( |
When it happened
Saturday, June 18, 2011How we got engaged
...The following year the couple joined Andy Fortner and the Ellendale college group for a sequel vacation in Gatlinburg once again. Being together so much for the entire week was great. As with all good vacations, their time together and with friends was most enjoyable, but it ended much too soon. Saturday night, on June 18th, the group returned to Memphis, but Brent and Whitney were not to return to their normal routine. Before they said goodnight for the final time of the week, they took a stroll through the park they had so often traversed in the last year. They reminisced about the joys of the week in the mountains they had just returned from, compared it to the trip where they met the previous year, and considered all the memorable and wonderful moments that have transpired in between. During the week in Gatlinburg Brent had made a wish on a fallen eye lash, and though she begged him, he would not tell Whitney what his wish was. When the trail was growing shorter and the time was getting longer, Brent said, "I hate that this week has to end, but I can't think of a better way to end it than to start our life together. I need to tell you my wish." As he got down on his knee he told Whitney his wish was that she would say 'yes'. Then he presented the ring and asked Whitney to marry him. The rest is history.
And that's how it all started...
